Easily Ungroup Shared Calendars

In the Google Help Forums, I spotted the following question. “If there was a tool for ungrouping and grouping shared Google Calendars?” Naturally, my reply was you can group shared calendars by checking them off individually. However, there is a tool for users to ungroup all at once by using the following steps.

  1. Open Google Calendar
  2. Click Option Settings (3 vertical dots) for the Calendar to leave open
  3. Select “Display this Only”

I suggested to the user about grouping calendars together and embedding into a New Google Site. My idea would provide a simple method for viewing several team member calendars at once.

My Shape Disappeared! No Worries!!!

It always amazes me when I hear someone say, “Something is wrong with this program!” “My shape, image, & text keep disappearing!” I always enjoy the look of amazement when restoring the item by moving an image through the layer levels. Layers allow users to move shapes, images or texts backwards and forwards through the layers.

Directions for Ordering Layers

  1. Click Shape to Select (blue box appears around image)
  2. Click Arrange in Toolbar
  3. Select Order
  4. Click one of the following:
    • Bring to Front
    • Bring Forward
    • Send Backward
    • Send to Back

Its the “Simple Things that Count”

While watching a child struggling to write a story the following thought hit me! Show the child how to make a simple graphic organizer using a single column table in Google Docs. Creating a simple table gave the student the tool they needed for proceeding to write independently.

Turn a Table Into a Graphic Organizer

  • Open a Google Doc
  • Click Insert
  • Select Table
  • Insert 1 column by 4 rows
  • Label each row
    • Title
    • Introduction
    • Details
      • remember to support your claim
    • Conclusion

Collaboration Leads to Innovation

I recently witnessed how communication and collaboration skills support both creative and critical thinking along with innovation. After spending a week at Sloan Kettering in NYC due to a family members cancer journey. During the week I noticed not one doctor made a decision without consulting a team of experts. I saw true collaboration and experienced the positive effects which develops from such teamwork. More than ever I understand why this cancer research center has one of the best reputations for providing innovative therapies and medicines.

The experience was a good example of how collaboration and communication naturally supports both creative and critical thinking. It is these very skills which lead to the development of innovation. I immediately connected this experience with the the 4C’s of learning. Now with greater reasons when integrating educational technology the skills are valued more than ever by me.

One of the reasons I’m passionate about integrating G Suite for Education products is due to the variety of tools they offer for strengthening and exploring the 4C’s. It is my belief the 4C’s are important skills to nurture when guiding students onto a pathway for both academic and future professional success!

Research Projects Made Easier…

When it comes to research projects why should students struggle due to reading levels of resources found on the internet? What would teachers say if a search engine could be focused upon research content appropriate for younger students and lower readers? It is my belief these tools benefit students with becoming independent learners. When children feel successful with completing tasks they start to internalize the value of “Research”. Once students understand the value of research it is easier to build and introduce more advanced search skills. Next time one plans a research project why not set the students up for success by sharing a search engine scaffold to their needs.

How to Create a Custom Google Search Engine

  • Click Create a custom search engine or New search engine

New search engine

  • In Sites to search box, type the sites you want to include for the search results
  • In Name Search Engine Box,  type the name for the new search engine
  • Finish by Clicking the Blue Create Button

Type Website URL

  • Copy embed code or public link for sharing

NOTE: Embed Code will allow you to place the search box on your website or in a blog.
